Requirements for Canadian Experience Class (CEC):

To qualify for the CEC, candidates must fulfill these criteria:

  • Work Experience:
    • At least one year (1,560 hours) of skilled work experience in Canada in the past 3 years.
    • The work must fall under NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.
    • Part-time work counts if the total equals 1,560 hours.
    • Self-employment and work during full-time studies (e.g., co-op) are not eligible.
  • Language Proficiency:
    • CLB 7 for NOC TEER 0 or 1 jobs (equivalent to IELTS 6.0 in all bands for English).
    • CLB 5 for NOC TEER 2 or 3 jobs (lower language requirements).
    • Acceptable tests include IELTS, CELPIP (English), TEF, or TCF (French).
  • Residency Status: Candidates must have legal status in Canada during their work experience (e.g., work permit). While you can apply from abroad, CEC is generally for those already in Canada.
  • Express Entry Profile: You must create a profile and meet the CRS score cut-off to be eligible for an ITA. No CRS score is guaranteed to receive an ITA, as the cut-off can change.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Education is not mandatory, but it can increase your CRS score.
    • You must be admissible to Canada (no criminal or health issues).

Steps to Take After Receiving an ITA:

If you were one of the 3,000 candidates invited to apply on June 12, 2025, follow these steps:

  1. Accept the ITA: Log into your Express Entry profile and accept the invitation within 60 days.
  2. Prepare Your Documents:
    • Passports and travel documents
    • Language test results
    • Educational credential assessments (if needed)
    • Proof of work experience (reference letters, pay stubs)
    • Proof of funds (unless you have a valid job offer or are employed in Canada)
    • Police certificates and medical exams
  3. Submit Your Application: Complete and submit your permanent residency application online and pay the required fees (approx. CAD 1,365 per adult in 2025).
  4. Wait for Processing: IRCC aims to process applications within six months. Be sure to check your application status frequently.
  5. Prepare for Arrival: Once approved, you’ll receive your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR). If you’re in Canada, you may complete the landing process virtually; if abroad, you’ll need to enter Canada to activate your status.

Hiring a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or lawyer can ensure your application is smooth and error-free.

Ready to Begin Your Journey?

Create or update your Express Entry profile, find ways to improve your CRS score, and consider seeking advice from a licensed immigration consultant to maximize your chances.

With the right strategy and determination, you could soon be on your way to making Canada your home!

Is a CRS Score of 490 Good?

A CRS score of 490 is competitive, but it may not always guarantee an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency through Express Entry. Higher scores increase your chances, so consider enhancing your score by gaining more work experience, furthering your education, or improving your language proficiency.
