Summary of Express Entry Draws 2024

What is Express Entry?

Introduced in 2015, the Express Entry system allows IRCC to efficiently select and process immigration candidates with in-demand skills. It manages applications for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

The CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) evaluates candidates based on factors like age, work experience, occupation, language ability, and education. Higher CRS scores increase the chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Express Entry includes various draw types: program-specific, category-based, and general draws. General draws consider all candidates, regardless of their specific program.

What is Category-Based Selection?

Introduced in 2023, category-based selection targets Express Entry candidates with specific attributes needed in Canada’s workforce or to boost the French-speaking demographic. Categories include:

  • Healthcare occupations
  • Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  • Trades occupations, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
  • Transport occupations
  • Agriculture and agri-food occupations
  • French-language proficiency

These draws are not tied to specific programs and typically have lower CRS cutoffs compared to general draws.
