FIVE FREE ASSISTANCE OPTIONS FOR TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKERS IN CANADA.


Even though many Immigration,  Refugees and Citizenship Canada  (IRCC) settlement services are  specifically for permanent residents  and protected persons, temporary  foreign workers (TFWs) can still  receive certain settlement services  from provincial and territorial  governments throughout Canada.

Please be aware that settlement  services are available from various  providers in all provinces and  territories of Canada, each with  their own policies, criteria for  eligibility, and services.

Can I access IRCC’s  settlement services?

The ability to access settlement  services is typically based on the  requirements setby the specific  service provider.

As per IRCC, certain temporary  residents in Canada qualify for  federal settlement services.  The department states that the  eligibility criteria for settlement  services funded by IRCC for  Temporary Foreign Workers are  different from those offered  by privately funded organizations,  non – profits, and provincially or municipally funded service  providers.

Five associations that  offer support services  for immigrant workers  in Canada.

Temporary foreign workers in  Canada have access to beneficial  settlement services and resources  that cater to various areas of worry.  These areas of  focus involve  language instruction, acquiring a  license or certification for work,  securing employment, and  integrating into the local community.

These five organizations provide  resources that Temporary Foreign  Workers can use to assist in their  settlement in Canada.

Please be aware that the  organizations listed below do not  receive funding from IRCC.

Toronto-based services for  women who are new  to the area (NEW)

NEW is a newcomer services  organization that focuses on  helping women through its main office in Toronto, Ontario, as well as three other locations in  Toronto and North York, Ontario.  NEW can assist Temporary   Foreign Workers in Ontario by  providing them with a range of  services in eight different    languages.

*NEW provides settlement program  services in Arabic, Farsi, Mandarin,  Bengali/Bangla, Hindi, Urdu,  Punjabi, and Spanish.

CCI Ottawa offers a range of  settlement services to temporary  foreign workers, including  assistance with obtainin necessary documents and applications(such as health cardand work  permit), well as workshops to prepare for the citizenship test an guidance on living in Ottawa.

CCI has made it clear that they will  not complete any paperwork  or forms on behalf of a client.

CCI Ottawa offers  services

  • Assistance in acquiring  necessary documents and  forms
  • Workshops to prepare for the citizenship test will  be held on a monthly basis.
  • Resources to assist in locating  housing and understanding  tenants’ rights.

BC Mosaic

Mosaic British Columbia offers assistance to  Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs)  in accessing necessary   support and information related to immigration and settling in  Canada through the British Columbia Settlement and  Integration Services (BCSIS) program.

Richmond Multicultural Community Services (RMCS)

In addition to offering their settlement services in fifteen languages, RMCS may assist TFWs by giving them relevant and useful information on a range of subjects.

Greek, Arabic, Punjabi, Japanese, Urdu, Vietnamese, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Farsi, and French are among the languages in which RMCS provides services.
